Summer Comfort Foods

The Andersons held a fourth of July picnic every summer. When asked, cousin Bob from Florida spoke with fond memories of comfort foods that they have had over the years. When he was a six-year old, he recalls asking his father about great Grandpa Joe’s famous barbeque chicken. “Dad, why is this BBQ chicken so good?” His dad responded, “Bobby, I have been asking Granps that question for 45 years.”

Bob’s wife, Gina, asked great Gradma Sue about the barbeque rub. “Sue, this tastes nothing like what we have in Florida. What is the secret ingredient?” Great Grandma Sue would say, “Honey, I will let you in on a family secret recipe next time you are here.” This exchange went on for about a decade. Gina and Bob always looked forward to the summer picnic and would not miss it for the world.

In 1999, Gina and Bob attended the Anderson fourth of July picnic. Gina asked great Grandma Sue about the barbeque chicken and family secret recipe. “So, Sue, what makes the barbeque chicken so good? What makes this comfort food so special and tasty and out of this world?” Great Grandma Sue looked at Gina with a smile to treasure. She said, “Honey, it’s all time and care and Anderson family love.”
